Working/Living Digitally – New Topic

I started working on the topic Catfish for my Digital Media II project.  The more we discussed my topic in class, I realized that there wasn’t much of a story left to discuss in a documentary that hasn’t already been told in ‘Catfish’ http://www.iamrogue.com/catfishthe documentary. Another issue with the topic of Catfish is that there are not too many people out there that are credible. Just because someone may have been catfished does not mean that they have a well-rounded understanding of the situation.

Because of this, I have decided to change my topic to “Musicians in a Social Media World”. I know that there are many musicians/bands out there who would not have been known by a broad audience or discovered without the use of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace, etc. A successful story of this would be Justin Bieber, who was discovered through YouTube. So, not only should I have no problem finding someone who has credibility to interview, it’s a subject that I find interesting and enjoy.

Below are new sources pertaining to musicians and how they can use social media to benefit them.

Working/Living Digitally – Video Sources

I did further research on the topic of “Catfish” through videos.  This is a collection of mostly YouTube videos with anything that deals with “Catfish” and/or will help me in the making of this documentary.

Living/Working Digitally Project – Sources

This semester, I’m taking Digital Media II, and the project we’re working on now deals with how the digital world we live in has made things possible that just couldn’t happen a few years ago without the technology we have now.  An example of this would be the woman who fell into a big fountain in the middle of a mall because she was texting on her cellphone. You can check the video out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGpVpsaItpU

We were to choose a topic that interested us enough to write a short research paper on and create a documentary about it.  I chose to work with the topic Catfish.  Long story short, Catfish is a documentary about a man, Nev, who starts an online relationship with a woman through Facebook.  Throughout the relationship, there were always excuses as to why they couldn’t video chat or why they couldn’t meet up in person.  By the end of the film, he finds out that the person he had been dating wasn’t who she claimed to be.  This eventually inspired Catfish: The TV Show, sharing similar stories like Nev’s.

In order to get started on my research, I have to gather sources.  These sources can be anything that will help me gather information for my topic and create my documentary (videos, articles, people, etc.).
